Stephen is an attorney in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. After more than five years of public service with the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Stephen joined the family business, bringing his extensive litigation and courtroom experience to the firm.
Stephen focuses his practice in three primary areas: Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, and Domestic Relations.
As a Deputy District Attorney, Stephen prosecuted thousands of cases, ranging from DUIs, traffic offenses, misdemeanor assaults and felony assaults, sexual assaults, to homicides. This experience gives him unique insight into how prosecutors approach cases and what they are looking for in negotiations. He is particularly skilled at working with deputy district attorneys to secure favorable resolutions for his clients. Being charged with a crime is one of the most vulnerable times in a person’s life. Stephen provides steady, informed, and effective advocacy to protect his clients’ rights at every stage of the process, from bond setting through jury trial.
In his civil litigation practice Stephen’s approach begins with a candid assessment of each client’s case. He prioritizes honesty and transparency, helping clients weigh the costs and benefits of their options rather than offering false hope. While he strives to resolve disputes efficiently and favorably outside of court, he is always prepared to take a case to trial and advocate vigorously when settlement is not an option. He is not afraid of the courtroom and in fact, he thrives there.
Stephen takes a distinct approach to his domestic relations practice, mindful of the relational and emotional dynamics involved in family law matters. He recognizes that these cases involve individuals who may need to maintain a working relationship with the opposing party well beyond the conclusion of their case, particularly when children are involved. Too often, attorneys exacerbate tensions and contribute to long-term conflict. Stephen works to minimize unnecessary hostility, striving to help his clients reach amicable resolutions whenever possible. He finds that clients are far more satisfied at the end of a case when they can maintain a cooperative relationship with their ex-spouse. That being said, when a courtroom battle cannot be avoided, Stephen is prepared to advocate vigorously to protect his clients’ interests.
When he is not looking out for his client’s best interests, he will likely be found with his wife, Mikayle, and two daughters, probably ranting about college football in some manner.
